Google Voice - What could it do for you?
If you are wondering what could Google Voice possibly do for you, you are at the right page, because I am going to show you how Google voice can change the way you do business online.
Google Voice Implementation for Better Search Engine Ranking
Let me start off by showing you the new Call me button (Top Right)
What is Google Voice?
Google Voice gives you a single phone number that rings all your phones, saves your voicemail online, and transcribes your voicemail to text. Other cool features include the ability to listen in on messages while they are being left and the ability to make low cost international calls. To start enjoying Google Voice, just give out your Google Voice number. You can record custom greetings for your favorite callers or block annoying callers by marking them as SPAM. Just click on the settings link at the top of your inbox. We hope you enjoy Google Voice.
How will Google Voice help you?
Google voice "Call Me" button is a code that Google uses to connect your visitor's call to your phone. To see a Call Me button in action visit the contact page and click on the Call Me button. This would take you straight to my voicemail. You can leave a message if you want or just hangup. If you do leave a message, Google Voice will transcribe your Voice Message into Text and email it to me. Making things convenient for me, and also save your message (both voice and text) in my Google Voice account, letting me search messages.
Primarily it would help you get better ranking because Google (if not other search engines) identify the Google Voice Call Me button code. This means that they know you have taken the extra step to let your visitors call you. This could "potentially" have the same effect as adding a phone number to your webpage.
But for you as a business, it will help you because you now have more than one option for your visitors to contact you. So you can retain more customers, and get a higher conversion rate as well.
Creating a Google Voice Account
Google Voice is not yet available to everyone. It is based strictly on invitations only. If you are someone like me who just couldn't wait, head over to ebay.com to find a good deal on Google Voice deals that are being auctioned on Ebay.
Once you get your invite and start setting up your account, you may follow the video below to get instructions:
You could add the Google Voice "Call me" button to any web page (preferably contact page) of your web site. InstantLP supports Call Me button, so you could add one to your website by a simple copy and paste.
Google Voice is not just about the Call Me button
The Call me button (Call Widget) is just an added provision made by Google for web site and blog owners like us. Primarily I would use Google Voice for 4 main reasons
1. Keeps my Number Private
Google Voice lets me take calls on my cell phone, while keeping my cell phone number hidden from the public. This is because Google Voice forwards (Routes) your call through the Google Voice number you select. This also ensures that if I change my cell phone number, I don't lose my customers, as all I need to do is update my Google Voice profile.
2. Keeps my Voice Messages and SMS Saved and Searchable
Google Voice transcribes all voice messages that you get and stores it in a searchable format (like Gmail email) and also emails and/or SMS'es you the message (based on your preference). So you could hear the audio version of your message, and read the text version, like in the image below:
3. Follows me around
If I am at work, it routes my calls to my work number saving me airtime on my cell phone, and when I am home, it calls at home and it can be configured to call ALL, ONE, MULTIPLE, or NO phone numbers at all. Everything is configurable, makes perfect sense.
4. Saves me Money
You can save money by using Google Voice in several ways but here two:
Since I don't need to necessarily have two different phones for work and cell, if I can use just my cell, I could keep it private, and all messages saved. So I can do without a line altogether (may not apply to everyone).
I use T-Mobile for my service and it offers a MyFavs option where I can specify 5 people I talk to the most, and call to and from these numbers don't get added to my airtime. I added My Google Voice number to MYFAV. Allowing me to make as many calls all over US and CANADA and not pay extra, that I DO need to pay if I call from my cell phone (Long Distance).
These are all the benefits I could see on day 3 of my using Google Voice, I am doing a lot more testing to see if I could get some more information out for you regarding this. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to email me and "CALL ME".
